Entrepreneurship

Mike Khatiwala, based out of Voorhees, New Jersey, is an entrepreneur and the Founder of Delaware Hotel Group. Founded in 2001, the Delaware Hotel Group, a hotel management company, works in Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. With nearly two decades of operating experience, they are well organized, systematic, and known for their unparalleled customer service.

The Delaware Hotel Group, under Mike’s expert leadership, specializes in sales and marketing, acquisitions and development, renovations and purchasing, and property management. He possesses decades of experience within the hospitality industry, as his family has owned and operated hotels for much of his life.

They opened their first hotel, The Journeys’ End Motel in West Atlantic City, in 1982. In the late 90’s, following the retirement of Mike Khatiwala’s father, the family liquidated their hospitality assets. However, a few short years later, Mike realized that the industry was the best fit for him and his family revived their business.

Mike, who obtained his Bachelors in Accounting from Drexel University, returned to the hospitality industry and created the Delaware Hotel Group. His first purchase was the Howard Johnson Express Inn and, in 2004, he bought the company’s second property, the Best Western Westgate Inn, in York, Pennsylvania. Today, Delaware Hotel Group owns and operates eight hotels spanning three states.

Mike Khatiwala’s proudest achievement to date has been the acquisition of his eighth property—the Hampton Inn in Cherry Hill/Voorhees. As a resident of Voorhees Township and a graduate of the local high school, claiming ownership of his town’s hotel was a shining moment in his career. Aside from personal accomplishments, Mike has also been the recipient of several industry awards, including the 2006 Hotel of the Year Award for the Days Inn Gettysburg.

In addition to his hotel management company, Mike is a managing member of Overall. Entrepreneurship seems to be in his blood—he started his first company at only 19 years old—and he loves helping others achieve the same level of success he has. He invests a lot of time and energy into helping others develop professionally, creating their own businesses and legacies.

In his free time, Mike finds catharsis in fishing or staying physically active through playing basketball. A big fan of the sport, he also enjoys catching the latest game and cheering on his favorite team. Additionally, he is passionate about philanthropic causes and works with a number of charities and nonprofit organizations including, but not limited to, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Indian Temple Association Inc, Parkinson’s Foundation, Toys for Tots, and Purple Heart.
